Our Team

“Love. They must do it for love. They love to live where they work and to work where they live.”

Wendell Berry

Emma Jagoz, founder

Hello! I’m Emma Jagoz and I’m a first generation farmer who founded Moon Valley Farm in 2012. I am passionate about taking action locally to tackle global social and environmental injustices. I see the broken food system with its abundance of unhealthy, highly processed food as one of the most dire issues facing our society, as it’s destroying the environment, it’s reliant on appalling work conditions and it creates a myriad of health issues to those who consume its products.

I believe that by stewarding land responsibly through regenerative agriculture, we will LOCALIZE our food system and also improve our waterways, the health of the Chesapeake Bay, and decrease the need to rely on fossil fuels and shipping logistics to get food. I think that the community that forms around this new local food system will have the tools needed to strengthen the health of our families through food AND will be empowered to successfully navigate the increasingly uncertain world affected by climate change disasters.

On the farm, our mission is to unite ALL people around our common denominator, the need to eat—by providing access to reliable, healthy, responsibly-grown and fresh food that combats our pandemic of health issues, reliance on pharmaceuticals, and a food industry that is destroying our planet. We are also passionate about providing our community with meaningful employment and improving the soil surrounding our region's most important resource, the Chesapeake Bay.

Outside of the farm, I am a mother of two amazing kids ages 12 & 11, have two dogs and two cats, and I am constantly working to better my work-life balance to focus on more quality time with my incredible family.

Jeanne

Hi, I'm Jeanne! I'm Moon Valley Farm's Office Manager. I've always had a passion for food and eating locally, so I was beyond excited to join the team at the beginning of 2021. I’m behind the computer/phone assisting with customer service and making sure logistics run smoothly. At the farm you can find me making box labels and delivery routes, emailing with CSA members and chefs, photographing the CSA shares, and helping with marketing. I also love cooking and sharing recipes with members in our newsletters and Facebook group! In my spare time I enjoy spending time outside hiking, biking, and going to coffee shops. My favorite veggie is delicata squash and I also love edible flowers!

Erin

I’m Moon Valley Farm’s driver for our Baltimore, Baltimore County, and Howard County deliveries. My four siblings and I grew up in Michigan, Illinois, and Alabama but our parents are Marylanders who met in Baltimore (in the big copper-and-gold-roofed skyscraper on Light Street!) and I’ve lived in Baltimore City since 2012. In my spare time I enjoy gardening, hiking, swimming the Gunpowder, Steely Dan, dabbling in fiber crafts, reading, and turning my farm share veggies into ravioli filling.

Grant

Hello! I'm Grant, and I've been a part of MVF since July 2020. I started as a part time delivery driver and loved the farm so much that I accepted the position of Pack Shed Manager. It's my responsibility to ensure our CSA members and restaurants get safe, fresh, and high quality produce that is packed in a clean space. On occasion, I also serve as one of the farm's contributing photographers, helping show where our food comes from. My favorite crop at MVF is our peppers! I had never heard of a Jimmy Nardello sweet pepper before working here, and now it's what I look forward to every summer.

Bryan

I’m Bryan. I have 25 years of construction experience, mainly remodeling homes focusing on kitchens, bathrooms and additions. I have also kept bees on the farm for the past 5 years. In that time I’ve gotten to know Emma and her family and crew, and can’t imagine working anywhere else. My role on the farm is trying to keep the equipment running and new projects progressing smoothly. Kale is probably my current favorite veggie, making kale chips is so easy and delicious.

Michael

I grew up in Potomac, Maryland surrounded by a big family - I’m the fifth of eight children. Many of my fondest childhood memories involve time spent outside with my siblings and then, later in the evening, recounting those adventures over a big family dinner. Those experiences left me with a deep appreciation for the outdoors and home cooked meals shared with friends and family. However, in 2017 when I graduated from Fordham University, I followed other passions and began a career as an elementary school science teacher in Brooklyn, New York. I loved the constant thrills of living in the city and doing science experiments with my students, but after a few years I began to long for those foundational experiences from my childhood. In the summer of 2021 I found my way back home to Maryland and began working at Moon Valley Farm. I am responsible for starting seeds, preparing fields, transplanting, watering, weeding, and occasionally delivering veggies to CSA members around DC. I consider myself lucky to work alongside a crew of kindred spirits who share my passion for providing good food to the community. I love every vegetable - but radicchio, golden beets, and French breakfast radishes are a few favorites!

Ann

Hi, I'm Ann! I will be reaching out to chefs, schools, our farm partners, and CSA farm community to talk about all of our local food offerings and the benefits of eating seasonally. After working as a broadcast journalist in a previous life, I moved back home to Maryland to follow my lifelong interest in plants. Growing homegrown organic vegetables has always been an important part of my life, so I am passionate about the importance of creating healthy and sustainable local food systems. I believe we can help people make more informed choices about where their food comes from, what they plant in their gardens, and make local the new normal. I am lucky to have had opportunities to learn from the best in several different fields. I have worked with horticulturists and green roof installers to build sustainable plant ecosystems on green roofs that reduce stormwater flooding in cities and helped nursery customers choose plants for their gardens to support pollinators and create essential habitats for birds. I’ve also been able to work with the University of Maryland to build demonstration vegetable gardens teaching people of all ages the importance of local food systems and how to grow healthy food. I have grown over 200 varieties of heirloom tomatoes in my home vegetable garden and will always find space for just one more tomato plant!

Jenna

I’m a produce enthusiast. I love planting and harvesting all the vegetables. Some of my favorites are sungold cherry tomatoes, murasaki sweet potatoes, hakurei turnips, and mizuna. When I’m not working on the farm or in the kitchen, you can find me at the skatepark rollerblading.
